Fraud Review ActionsUpdated 12 days ago

Orders will be moved into Fraud Review for one of the following reasons:

  • The customer or order data is matched to what is on the banned list
  • Fraud monitoring is enabled for that customer
  • Paymonix fraud prevention rules are triggered
  • Fraud Labs fraud prevention rules are triggered

When orders get moved into fraud review, the customer's transaction is held and is ultimately awaiting the decision of the Paymonix user to approve or deny that transaction.

What to look for:

  • Are there any fraud monitoring notes left from other users about this customer?
  • Is there a notice this customer is banned or has similar data to a customer that is banned?
  • Has this customer placed any orders before?
    • If a customer has placed orders before and have never chargedback, it's likely their transaction is legitimate and can be approved.
    • If a customer has never placed an order before, it's suggested to look for other indicators to determine if the transaction is legitimate.
  • Does anything stick out about the customer's shipping and billing addresses?
  • Is the customer's IP location close to their billing or shipping address?
  • Is the card holder name the same as the name on the order?
  • How many transaction attempts has this customer tried within the order or over the course of sometime?
  • Are they switching card details if the previous transactions failed?

Depending on your store settings, the transaction could have a response from Paymonix fraud prevention rules noted in fraud review.

Depending on your store and payment settings, the transaction could have a response from FraudLabs (a secondary fraud prevention layer) noted in fraud review.

What to look for:

  • What rule, if any, was triggered by FraudLabs?
  • Is the fraud score over 80 points?
  • Does FraudLabs report the user data in any blacklists?
  • Is the user using a proxy IP?
  • Check the JSON response for more details from FraudLabs like credit card issuing country,

All of the information above is helpful in determining if the Paymonix user should approve or deny the transaction.

There are 5 actions the user can take in determining how to process the order:

  • Blacklist & Cancel: Void all transactions and add the customer to fraud list with a global ban status, and adding their data in blacklist on FraudLabs.
  • Reject & Failed: Reject user fraud so it will trigger for fraud check in the future while failing the payment. Failing the payment will allow the customer to attempt to make payment on their order again.
  • Reject & Cancel: Reject user fraud and cancel payment. Canceling the payment will cancel the customer's order- ultimately not allowing them to attempt to pay for that order again.
  • Approve & Failed: Approve user fraud and fail payment. The customer will be able to try to pay again on their order.
  • Approve & Process: Approve user fraud and process payment.
